UK-based spatial analytics and software company, Advanced Infrastructure has been selected to participate in an industry-leading scaleup program led by Australia's largest accelerator and innovation hub for climate-tech startups, EnergyLab.
The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between startups and electricity network operators to accelerate innovation within Australia’s rapidly evolving electricity system.
Advanced Infrastructure is one of a select few international companies invited to join the program and is already contributing its award-winning energy planning software tool, LAEP+ to the conversation.
With LAEP+ deployed across 4 of the UK’s 6 Distribution network Operators and over 200 towns and cities, Advanced Infrastructure brings a proven track record of supporting grid modernisation and energy transition at scale.
The LAEP+ Software Tool was created to support utilities, municipalities, consultants and developers to identify optimum locations to deploy low carbon technologies, plan region-wide energy transitions and enhance grid forecasting.
The Platform supports the modelling of multiple long-term scenarios and the creation of detailed energy projects – enabling users to run comprehensive assessments of potential carbon savings for specific interventions such as retrofits.
LAEP+ also facilitates stakeholder engagement, enabling cross-sector collaboration and data sharing to build consensus and drive coordinated action. Local authorities can share their plans directly with networks Operators, informing network investment decisions and ensuring that infrastructure reinforcement aligns closely with local Net Zero ambitions.
For network operators, this level of visibility supports more efficient capital investment, reduces the risk of network constraints, and helps ensure that strategic decisions are fully aligned with both regulatory requirements and long-term decarbonisation goals.
Over the coming months startups will meet one-on-one with a broad selection of industry teams to explore the potential for commercial pilots and partnerships that will help to decarbonise the Australian grid. The selected startups will also hear from market bodies including the Australian Energy Market Operator, and the Australian Energy Regulator, as well as receiving market briefings from Australian grid owners and operators, helping the international cohort build their understanding of the Australian market.
Through its involvement in this program, Advanced Infrastructure is sharing lessons learned from the UK’s transition. These insights are being used to inform the ongoing dialogue about how Australia’s grid can evolve to meet increasing demand and climate goals.
As the program continues, Advanced Infrastructure remains actively engaged in roundtables, showcases, and strategic discussions. The company’s participation highlights the global nature of energy system transformation and reinforces the value of cross-border collaboration in building the infrastructure needed for a net-zero future.
Christopher Jackson, CEO at Advanced Infrastructure said:
"The EnergyLab Scaleup Program is our stepping stone into the Asia Pacific market. Australia is a leader in decarbonisation and the program's partners are important stakeholders and customers in the commercialisation of our software products. Ongoing dialogue with customers is key to understanding the requirements of Australian network operators and their peers in the region."
