The Energy Modeller role will utilise our growing library of energy system data sets across power generation, distribution and demand. The role will build models that create new data sets that deliver value to energy system stakeholders. The role will also build digital twins of low carbon technologies across multiple energy systems vectors of heat, power and transport. Examples of our work include EV chargepoint siting models, transformer thermodynamic models, photovoltaic forecasting models.

Key responsibilities

  1. Lead the implementation of optimization techniques to capture complex real-world issues within our models.

  2. Drive forward best software development practices within the modelling team.

  3. Work closely with our research, consulting, and SaaS teams to develop our models to best meet client requirements.

  4. Mentor junior colleagues via code review, feedback session, and topical training.

Key Requirements

  1. Knowledge of Energy Systems, Low Carbon Technologies, Building Simulation Modelling or Power Markets and how to model them

  2. Familiarity in software engineering best practice (version control, automatic testing, writing modular code).

  3. Strong knowledge of mathematical optimization (Linear Programming, Dynamic Programming, MIP, etc..)

  4. Excellent Python programming skills

  5. Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent experience.

  6. Exceptional problem solving skills and analytical ability
